You seem to be stuck somewhere between Marx and Foucault. Marx believed in social evolution and described its structure as capitalism. Foucault believed that society was a disciplinary force that controlled human behavior, what the social justice movement calls 'Power'.
Gurdjieff believed that society turns us into unthinking machines divorced from our true nature. Krisnamurti thought one could only live and think freely when one is not contaminated by society. There is a reason Thoreau lived in a cabin on Walden Pond.
Maybe society doesn't evolve so much as it is guided.
