Western civilization is collapsing, so young folks don't understand the context of what is being taught.

The problem with academic philosophers such as yourself (and many others I'm seeing...) is they explain a concept or philosopher but don't explain the context of their work or what effect it has had on civilization as a whole. So either they get no context, or they get your academic framing of the idea.

If I were you I would break down a philosophy course into three parts; classical, modern, and postmodern and teach each in the context of its times. Show how Plato influenced classical art. Show how Kant influenced science. Show how Foucault influenced feminism. Only then will philosophy be meaningful to students.
