Today we have motion detectors on interior lights so they only come on when people enter the room. What if we put motion detectors on street lights so they only turned on when cars or people were present? Imagine the energy savings!

What if we use smart meters on buildings to determine exactly the load needed from the utility company and at what time?

The possibilities are endless for on-demand production.

I make the analogy to that of a restaurants. We currently have an all you can eat buffet. This creates over-production, over-consumption, and just wastes food. Now imagine a restaurant that takes your order and gives you exactly what you want, when you want it; On-demand.

This is the future of cities and infrastructure I believe. It can also be applied to consumer goods and services also.
