This article is a non sequitur. People don’t want to go downtown or work downtown or live downtown so create more density in cities? If Covid taught us anything, it is that dense cities are problematic. More density does not create more affordable housing. It actually stops it.

Crime, poverty, lack of infrastructure and amenities are all issues that need to be dealt with along with housing. The problem isn’t more housing, it a mix of housing. If all a city is building is one, two, or three bedroom apartment condos (like San Francisco) this is not diverse enough for many families. Working class families are pushed out to the suburbs. We need diversity in housing typology, not more density.
