There is another more radical option, the 'appropriation of space'. This is where people take back the space stolen from them. Occupy Wallstreet and homeless encampments are a few examples. So far people only take little acts of appropriation, but what would happen if people took back space on an urban scale? Remember when native Americans took over Alcatraz in San Francisco? Maybe we need rebel activists to take over common places to make a statement.
