There is a whole industry of journalism that is devoted to explaining science to non-scientists. I see this most profoundly in climate change science. Science is often based on mathematical models so explaining it without the math often results in pseudoscience.
My theory is that ‘consumer’ based knowledge is changing our understanding of the world in ways we don’t understand. Instead of knowledge being created by professionals in whatever field, it is instead created by consumers consuming knowledge like products. This consumption changes the algorithm of search engines, and in the end change knowledge itself.
