There is a general idea that we are moving from an industrial economy to a postindustrial one. The postindustrial economy dominates and controls the industrial. Industrial production is shipped to emerging economies and used as cheap labor and energy. The postindustrial economy would function like Silicon Valley, controlling intellectual property and more advanced technology. This is the goal of the West.
This postindustrial economy still needs something of an industrial base for energy and agriculture at the least. Shipping out these jobs and means of production sounds good for the short run, but means they need to control industrial economies through monetary policy and military action.
If this works in the long run we will have to see. These people are not dumb. They know exactly what they are doing. If it works or not is another story.
