The reason some hate CRT is that it is based on Critical Theory which asserts that all social dynamics are based on 'Power'. This comes from Nietzsche, Foucault, and the Frankfort School. 'Marxism' for those uneducated in Postmodern theory is what people think of when it comes to ordering a society around 'Power'.

People are not stupid just because they don't understand Postmodern theory. They realize there are problems with this value system, and that it should not be the basis of government laws and practices, nor should it be taught to children. Both of which are happening now.

Critical Theory sets up a Postmodern value system that is based on 'Power' being the dominate force in society. Its goal is to restructure power systems to be more equitable and inclusive. This of course is a noble goal, but it means tearing down existing power structures. In practice, most people are smart enough to realize this means significant social upheaval and are not onboard with changing all of society based on a theory. People are tired of trusting experts and technocrats and realize that intellectuals use their Power for their own benefit and not for 'normies'.
