The real issue with housing prices is that the rich elite are forcing out middle and working class people out of desirable communities. This is sometimes called “uneven development”. It shows how America is becoming a nation of elites and everyone else. The rich will own homes in good neighborhoods, and everyone else will rent wherever they can.
