The problem is that 'content creators' are incentivized to make you click, then keep you on the platform. This monetizes your attention and consciousness. It turns people into consumers of content by monetizing desires.

I really worry about what this is doing to 'knowledge' in general. Is real knowledge being suppressed and when cat videos and doom porn are promoted?

Specifically for climate change, there are real problems and real solutions that we could be discussing. Instead we get stupid predictions of doom that take away human agency and instead puts agency on governments and institutions. All these prophets of doom are doing is making us think we have no control, so just sit back and be a good consumer of content.
