The problem is that capitalism grows and changes over time. We are entering an age of ‘captured capitalism’ where capitalist corporations and institutions have captured most of society to include the government. This is called ‘state capitalism’ where the government regulatory bodies serve the corporations and not the will of the people.
The solution to this is to develop ‘deep democracy’ where the will of the people is centered, and capitalist institutions are de-centered. I think it is too late for ‘democratic socialism’ (as progressives still believe in) as capitalism has captured the Democrats just as they have captured the Republicans. The only solution is to rebuild social institutions around the will of the people, and not capitalist systems.
I think either we move to deep democracy, or we will be stuck in ‘captured capitalism’ for the foreseeable future.
