The only way to create a sustainable society is for societal collapse? This is crazy talk.
When talking about sustainability you need to ask what is being sustained, and why sustain it?
What is being sustained is over-production; capitalism producing surplus-value for its shareholders. This requires over-consumption, and advertising to make people want more and more.
What is needed is a postcapitalist, postindustrial, society that makes just enough. It requires a new 'on-demand' economy instead of a mass-production economy.
Society doesn't need to collapse, it needs to evolve. Seems like 'progressives' have abandoned progress and see only doom and gloom for the future. We will never get to a better society if we allow it to fail.
