The 400 year evolution of capitalism was that nation states expanded into colonial empires. After WWI the globe was partitioned into nation states. Re-partition became impossible without war. Territories could not pass from ownerless, to owner, just from one owner to another.

Capitalism may indeed evolve past the need for nation states, but who then owns the territories? Corporations? Oligarchs? Populist nationalists? Be careful of what you wish for, you may just get it.
