Thanks for writing about this. I haven’t seen much news coverage on this topic.

But I think your anger and outrage is misplaced. The federal government is becoming increasingly weak and feckless. Without a major war or national disaster its mission is just to maintain the capitalist status quo. States need to step up and take the lead, and California for example is phasing out fossil fuels in the next twenty years.

The strategy of environmentalists over the years has been to codify environmental protections into Federal law. The error of this technique was seen in the Trump Administration when he rolled back many environmental protections. Now we are seeing this in the Trump selected Supreme Court.

Environmentalists need to have a different strategy other than just getting the Federal Government to institute environmental laws. There needs to be a bottom up strategy, not a top down one. Local and state laws need to strengthened first, then the Federal government will have to follow suit.
