Perhaps you should ask; "Reduce consumption of what exactly?, and Why?" Energy, plastic, water, products?
We all know of reducing CO2 emissions, but it is not entirely clear what individuals consume that has the most effect. Airline travel, cars, meat, the built environment? I doubt most people know what produces the most carbon.
California wants people to stop consuming so much water. And plastic bags, and plastic straws among a host of other products.
There is a big push to stop agricultural production using nitrogen. This would eliminate much of our food production. So stop consuming meat so we can save the sea.
I make the point, because capitalism has changed in 'late-stage' capitalism. Early stage capitalism focused on private ownership of industrial production. Society was organized around industrialists and mass production. Now in 'late-stage' or even postcapitalism, society is reorganizing around the bureaucratic control of consumption. Governments, working with, or captured by industry, are creating an administered state that controls individual and group consumption. The agenda is everything consumed will be regulated.
Its not a 'great reset' or conspiracy theory. It is just the next evolution of capitalism. It really has nothing to do with the environment, although climate change is one of the reasons given. Not saying climate change isn't real, just that every crisis is an opportunity.
