People in history of civilization have valued and taken meaning from the appreciation of beauty. Nature is beautiful. Art is beautiful. Music is beautiful. Relationships with other people can be beautiful and meaningful. Children especially are beautiful, and family relationships are the most meaningful in our lives.
Certainly, this is one of the most rapidly changing, and potentially dangerous times in human history. This has produced a profound nihilism in Western society. I would argue that this comes from a breakdown in capitalism, where people cannot imagine a post-capitalist value system.
That doesn't mean we should give up on trying to have a good, meaningful, and beautiful life. Children are a big part of that.
