My theory is that hyperreality is the ultimate form of technology to control natural and social environment. This includes the subjective consciousness of individuals.
As a technology it is not passive, it has an agenda. The agenda since the industrial revolution has been to be 'productive'. Marx thought the agenda was 'capitalism' but it is much bigger than that. Everything in society must be realigned to 'produce'. Hyperreality is the main technology behind the transition from an industrial economy, to a postindustrial one. If we transition from capitalism, to a postcapitalist world, it will be done through the use of hyperreality.
I call this new hyperrality "interobjective ecologies". I write about it here: https://medium.com/original-philosophy/a-brief-theory-of-everything-interobjective-ecologies-45d0a29cf9e0
