My point was Marx was stating the idea prevalent in the 1800s that society was organized around work and ‘labor’. After WWII society was reconstructed around mass production and industrialization. Labor and work was abstracted into ‘production’, and the role of the laborer minimized. Society was organized around ‘production’ and capital accumulation. In late-stage capitalism, not only is physical work minimized, but also white-collar and intellectual/creative work.
So using a Marxian analysis of labor doesn’t help explain society today. Rather one should look at the more abstract concept of ‘production’.
