My main point was that 'sense-making' is difficult if not impossible in the current information ecosystem. Knowledge is produced, distributed, and consumed in the same way the industrial economy produces consumer products.

You may think you can make informed decisions about the knowledge you acquire, but it is all pre-processed for your consumption. It creates what Marx called 'false consciousness' in the intellectual class where they think they are somehow better than the lazy thinking proletariat.

You may think you know where your water comes from until there is a fire, and they turn off the water, and your house burns down. Part of 'sense-making' is having the knowledge to act in your own self interest. This is difficult if not impossible to do when there is an ongoing agenda to create false consciousness.
