Let me offer another perspective on the future of cancel culture.
With the advent of consumerism, the consumer became king. Corporations started doing research on who their consumers were, and why they consumed. It was found that women make most of the purchasing decisions for families. Thus women became important in the capitalist/consumer based society. Instead of just marketing to men, they started marketing to women. Demographic researchers identified consumers by race, gender, socioeconomic group, and marketed to them specifically.
So 'cancel culture' and 'woke' culture, come directly from late-stage capitalism where corporations pander to consumers and demographic groups.
This flips the 'might makes right' and 'right makes right' value systems on its head, as corporations who hold power are now trying to do what is 'right' to cater to their consumers. Cancel culture becomes about corporations and institutions value signalling to their consumers that they are doing 'right'.
This has nothing to do with doing good and being inclusive. It has everything to do with capitalism co-opting all parts of society under its power.
