In the United State where I live there is much climate ‘action’ in the form of laws and restrictions, but very little spending by the government. Instead the government regulates consumption. The huge spending bill on climate change that passed congress earlier this year gave huge tax breaks to big corporations to be ‘green’ but actually had little to no funding for government infrastructure programs to address climate change. This can be seen in the need to build a low voltage power grid for solar and wind, but the government is taking no steps in its creation. If the government was serious about climate change it would be working to change the energy infrastructure.
It is clear the government approach is not to promote spending on climate change and the needed infrastructure, but to make people consume less by regulating all consumption while giving huge tax breaks to corporations to be ‘green’. This promotes over-production of corporations, while placing the burden of regulation on individual consumers. This is not a climate change strategy but a political strategy.
The question then is why this one sided approach to climate change? The answer is the climate change crisis is being used for political purposes, specifically to control consumption by individuals while promoting large corporations.
