In the book 'Thank You for Arguing' the author tries to go a whole day without arguing, and finds that all communication is persuasion. Or as Aristotle states, all arguing is Rhetoric. It is impossible to communicate and not argue.

The problem with social media is that it is impossible to know if the person you are arguing with is listening and responsive, or not. Unlike having an actual debate, there is no way to gauge how your feedback will be taken. Unlike a conversation in real life, it is impossible to know when to escalate or deescalate an argument.
