I visited Prague in 2014 I believe. There was something not right about the city that I could not exactly place. Where were all the Jews that had made the city so famous? Where were all the Germans that made Prague castle and other landmarks? They were all gone. I guess removed after WWII? So in many ways Prague is a recreated, reinvented city for tourists. Its authenticity compromised by war and tourism.

I couldn't put my finger on why Prague seemed inauthentic to me at the time, but I recently read an article here on Medium of why Prague was such a tourist trap. It finally made sense to me.

Prague is a beautiful wonderful city filled with rich history. But I think you may have a romantic longing for something that is a fairly recent construction. The Czech Republic is only 30 years old. By comparison Apple computer company is 50 years old.
