I think you are normalizing something that isn't normal. This is not a proxy war like Afghanistan. Killing millions of Europeans will not be tolerated.

There are three things that are different with this conflict.

1. This will effect all of Europe either directly or indirectly. That is 750 million people that will effected, and 44 countries. European countries are not going to tolerate this disruption for long.

2. Everyone has cell phones and can broadcast images from war to much of the Western world. Everyone can see what is going on, unlike previous conflicts. The Western world cannot tolerate the use of incorrect pronouns never mind the killing of millions of people.

3. All Ukrainians are now combatants. In previous wars killings of civilians was outlawed. Here civilians have been directly targeted. Something else that cannot be normalized or tolerated.

What may last 10 to 15 years is a deep world recession as Europe deals with the fallout (maybe literally) from this war.
