I think what you are not seeing, living in Prague, is the American people are the most propagandized people on the planet. There a few elites that don't believe the propaganda, and there are many working class folks that don't have time to watch the news, but the vast middle is constantly told lies.

I don't think there is a left and right anymore in the U.S.. I don't think there is politics or democracy either. Just an industrial complex that controls power. Politics is just theater. Much like the Roman circus. Except the American people don't even get the bread.
