I think the left is deeply conflicted about what to do about the perceived threat on the right to women’s rights. On the one hand they want to tear down institutions that they see as ‘fascist’. On the other hand they want to build up ‘democratic’ institutions that support women’s rights. If laws are written to protect women’s rights, they can just as easily be written to take them away, as we see now in many states. Giving the state power over women’s rights is problematic and just leads to the left promoting totalitarianism. The solution is empowering women and people so the state cannot take these rights away. This is ‘deep democracy’, not just the creation of democratic institutions but putting real power in the hands of the people.
