I have a third (fourth?) option for you.
Free market capitalism is like an all you can eat buffet. Over-production and over-consumption. You see too much food, so you put too much food on your plate.
Socialism is like an all you can eat buffet, but your mother is looking over your shoulder telling you how fat you are. Over-production but controlled consumption. You don't put the food on your plate, and you feel guilty for being so fat that you want the food in the first place.
How about a third option? One where there isn't over-production and over-consumption, or your mom telling you you're fat. How about going into a restaurant and ordering off a menu, and get just what you want. No more, no less. How about an on-demand economy. No over-production, no over-consumption. No advertising, because you get just what you want, when you want it. No need to force people to over-consume.
You want to go to go somewhere, no need to take a bus, or sit in traffic, a self-driving car can take you there and pick you up. Just one of the many benefits of an 'on-demand' economy.
We have the technology. We can build it...
