Green jobs were always a lie. There is a segment of the environmental movement that thinks we can use capitalism to 'grow' our way out of this problem. Bill Gates for example. There must be some technological solution that will save us.

The problem is capitalism over-produces and then forces us to over-consume. Capitalism is the root of the problem as it exploits nature as a 'natural resource'. More growth is not going to save the planet.

'Sustainable growth' and sustainablity in general was an idea that comes from the United Nations. It was an idea that rich capitalist countries would develop more efficiently, while poor non-capitalist countries would get economic help to develop more sustainably. For example, Western countries would phase out coal fire plants, while developing countries would never build them and instead use solar or wind. If China is any example, this sustainable growth model doesn't work because developing countries seek the cheapest energy, not the most expensive. China has and continues to build thousands of new coal fire plants, while the developed Western countries slowly decommission them. If other developing countries around the world build coal fire plants like China, we are doomed.
