Great article, but a few points of clarification.

Capitalism is a system of economics, while democracy is a system of government. Capitalism organizes the economy based on surplus-value, capital. Democracy is government that follows the will of the people. China in many ways has become capitalist, but still has a communist government, for example.

You didn't mention law making or administrative law. "Special Interest" groups control law making, which is mostly oligarchs, but other groups lobby the government. The Koch bros often write their own laws then give them to congress to pass. Administrative law is worse. Agencies have no obligation to the 'people' only to enforce laws given to them. Think IRS...

The solution, I believe, is a 'deep democracy' where people have direct effects on laws, policies and procedures. Imagine your congressman is voting on a bill. They would have to take a poll of all their constituents and only vote based on their feedback. Even better, imagine congress did not write any laws, but rather they were written by a group of constituents and then given to congress. Instead of oligarchs and special interests writing legislation, the people would write it. This is the only way to fix corporate capture of the government. Give power back to the people by having them approve all laws and budgets.
