Evolutionary psychology tries to 'flatten' all human behavior into objective scientific maps and models. Yet, human behavior is more complex based on subjective phenomena such as emotions, thoughts, needs, wants, and desires. It is impossible to map subjective experience onto objective models.
As an architect I had a teacher who tried to explain why people like architecture due to evolutionary psychology. ( His book was called 'The Origins of Architectural Pleasure.') One of his arguments was we like architectural space because as hunter/gatherers we hunted animals on the open prairie and needed to see far away for protection and advantage over predators. It sounds logical and objective, but is complete BS. We feel pleasure from art or architecture, not because we evolved to do so, but rather because of subjective experience.
When teaching scientists how to think, we need to make them take liberal arts classes so they don't arrogantly believe that all phenomena can be explained through objective maps of meaning.
